Au P’tit Grec on rue Mouffetard – really great savoury crepes !!

Wed 19th May 2010 - Au P'tit Grec busy as usual

In the vicinity of 66 rue Mouffetard, hungry for something savoury but don’t want to spend a lot of time or money on a sit-down meal ? – like many other fans every evening who make the pilgrimage there, try one of the great range of savoury crepes made before your eyes at Au P’tit Grec. Only drawback is that you will probably have to wait in line but at least this gives you time to change your mind several times about which one to order - Last wednesday I had one of the daily specials which had aubergines and feta with salad – yummee!

Rose shaped ice-cream cones at Gelati d'Alberto

Of course you could go back for a Nutella or other sweet crepe for dessert but if that is just too much, walk up the street, as we did to number 45 and have great Italian ice-cream at Gelati d’Alberto. They shape your ice-cream like a rose on top of the cone.

Your local street market – Place Monge in the 5th

wed 19th May 2010 - Place Monge market

wed 19th May 2010 - Place Contrescarpe

Today is wednesday so I knew the street market at Place Monge would be happening. I went there about 11am and bought some fruit for the next few days. If you are staying on the eastern side of the 5th this market, which operates on wednesdays, saturdays and sundays, is a good place to buy your fruit and veg. Afterwards you can take a coffee on  Place Contrescarpe or wander down rue Mouffetard to pick up some cheese and wine from the open shop stalls.

Your local street market – rue Mouffetard in the 5th

Rue Mouffetard has been a Paris street market for centuries. Go there and like me, you will succumb to the fetching array of produce, glorious stacks of cheese and the aroma of roasting chickens. Place de la Contrescarpe at the top of the street has some lovely bohemian cafes and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, the market on the adjacent Place Monge is where to buy your lettuces, fruits and vegetables.

Rue Mouffetard would be your local market  if you were renting an apartment in the 5th, on the eastern edge of the Latin Quarter and around the Sorbonne. Convenient metros are Place Monge (line 7) and Cardinal Lemoine (line 10).
