La Robe et le Palais – a good bistro near Chatelet

I have been to La Robe et le Palais half a dozen times over the last couple of years and it continues to meet my expectations of friendly service, great food and regional wines from SW France and fair prices for the overall quality of the restaurant experience. Good bistros are not that common in the bustling streets around Chatelet so keep this one in mind when you find yourself in the area.

Disneyland Paris – getting there from the centre of Paris is easy and quick

Don’t just go to Paris to visit Eurodisney – see Paris too !!

From our apartment in the centre of Paris we took the RER A train out to Eurodisney (direction Marne-la-Vallee Chessy which is the terminus). It takes 35/40 minutes, brings you to within 100 metres of the entrance and you can get it at Etoile (Arc-de-Triomphe), Opera-Auber, Chatelet, Gare de Lyon and Nation.

RER B train – quickest and cheapest way into central Paris from Charles de Gaulle airport

This is the way I do it so I hope it works for you.

Directly across from Terminal 1 (which Aer Lingus always uses) arrivals take  the lift down 1 level to CDGVAL. Opposite the lift exit, walk up the travelator to the platform for CDGVAL which is an automatic shuttle train service every few minutes between the airport’s 3 terminals. Take the shuttle 2 stops to Terminal 3 / Trains to Paris (if you arrive into Terminal 2 with Air France/Cityjet you can walk or also take CDGVAL to the train). When you disembark go up the stairs or escalator and you are in the main hall of the train station.

You can buy tickets at the desk or from the ticket vending machines. A single to central Paris costs about €8 but if you buy a “carnet” or book of 10 you get them for about €6.70. Tickets are all single and and can be used in both directions (if you are going to be using the metro while in Paris, avoid having to queue again and also by a carnet of metro tickets which again are cheaper by the 10). The train you are taking into Paris is the RER B and usually departs from platforms 22 or 24 which is across the hall from where you came up from the shuttle, and down the stairs or escalator. During the day, trains to Paris are every 8 minutes (unless there is another strike or go slow!) and take 30 to 40 minutes (every 2nd one is direct to Gare du Nord which avoids the suburban stops). After Gare du Nord, the train stops at Chatelet, Saint Michel-Notre Dame, Luxembourg, Port Royal and Denfert Rochereau.

Metro connections from Gare du Nord – lines 4 and 5, from Chatelet – lines 1, 4, 7, 11 and 14, from St Michel-Notre Dame – lines 4 and 10 and from Denfert Rochereau – lines 4 and 6.

Bon voyage!
