Paris Apartments by Numbers at Wordcamp Ireland – March 6th & 7th

Parisbynumbers at Wordcamp Ireland

Carrying on with our enjoyment in the world of blogging and talking about all things Parisian, we will be present at Wordcamp Ireland to learn more and perhaps tell others how we have found using blogging as a tool to engage and build conversations with the outside world!

Taking a stand at the event in Kilkenny on March 6th and 7th we also want to let you know about our Wordcamp Promotion as we look to interact with everyone both offline and online. We are giving away accommodation for a 3 night long weekend stay in Paris for 1 very lucky winner plus their guest in either Ile St Louis or Notre Dame. To find out more just visit us on Facebook

PARIS APARTMENTS

Batobus – a great way to move between the major Paris landmarks

I always suggest to people who have only a day or two in Paris that taking the Batobus on the Seine is the most enjoyable and efficient way to see the main sights and experience the magic of the City of Lights at night.

You can buy a day pass for about €13 and hop on and off at any of the eight stops which include Notre Dame, Hotel de Ville, Louvre, Champs Elysses, Eiffel Tower and Musee d’Orsay. The round trip is less than 1hr.30mins and you can decide at which places to spend more time. Get back on board after dark and the city takes on a whole new life from the river perspective, particularly the Eiffel Tower which sparkles for several minutes every hour, on the hour!

Taste and buy wine from the barrel at these prices!

Le Baron Rouge is a wine bar I have written about before but I had to mention it again because this week’s Blog header photo above is taken from it. Yes, you can buy excellent wine at the prices per litre written on the barrels.

Go to Decathlon in Paris for great value and quality sports gear and clothing

If you are near Madeleine, avenue Wagram, Stade de France (and plenty of other locations that escape me right now), do yourself a favour and visit a Decathlon store. For range, price and quality of their own brands including Quechua, Wedze Kipsta, you won’t do better for gear for any sport you can think of (except hurling!) at home or abroad.

As a family, we buy all our ski wear, rucksacks, footwear etc there and if I’m passing the Madeleine  branch (direct access underground from the Metro station (lines 8,12 and 14) I usually drop in myself to see what’s on offer  at the time – they always have a rolling selection of products from their “blue” range at seriously discounted prices.

Your local street market – rue Poncelet on the border of the 8th and 17th

I took this photo of the fruit stall at the start of the rue Poncelet street market two days ago. Despite the freezing cold, vendors and customers were out doing their daily buying and selling of fresh fruit, cheeses, bread, fish, charcuterie and more. Rue Poncelet  would be your local market  if you were staying in the area north of the Arc de Triomphe, on the border of the 8th and 17th, near Metro Ternes (one stop from CDG Etoile).

STGER12 – rue de Vaneau, 75007 Paris

We stayed at STGER12 at 78 Rue Vaneau in late May 2011. The booking was very good and any questions were answered quickly. We used the 75 euro taxi service which was excellent given the 90 minute car trip from the airport to the apartment. The taxi driver gave us lots of information about the city. An agent met us within minutes of us arriving at the accomodation. The apartment is small but suited us well as we were only 2 people. The floor does creak when you walk on it but this adds to the character. The kitchen is very basic. I don’t think the apartment had been used for quite a while as the fridge had been left off and open and the power to the apartment was shut off. The living room carpet is badly stained and should be replaced. The location is 1/2 block to the metro and 1 block to very good shopping. There are 3 problems with the apartment. It will be hot in the summer and would be good to have a few fans available to keep cool. The washer/dryer takes 10 hours to finish. The last problem is the biggest. There is a new building being built directly across the street. We could not leave the windows open due to dust and noise. This started at 7am and went till 3pm every day. They are just starting construction so think this will take years to finish. The noise is very loud from the tractor and suggest this is a problem for renting.

We visited Paris the first days of June and we stayed at STGER12. The apartment was very nice, clean, sunny and had everything we need.
The service provided was extremely professional. Since the moment I started asking about the different flats to rent the answers were quick and kind; when we called asking for something related to the apartment a representative of yours was there in less than an hour; and also the service of the taxi you arranged to pick us up was excelent too.
I hope we will be back in Paris soon and no doubt we´ll contact your agency again.

This was our second stay for our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers at STGER12 and we had a fabulous time. The location of the apartment is great with supermarkets, boulangeries and cheese shops at your doorstep (not to mention one of the most amazing food halls I have ever seen only a 5-10 minute walk away). The apartment has an amazing ambience and we enjoyed many evenings cooking at home and sitting in the lovely dining room. The street is very quiet and we always sleep very well while there. The floors are creaky, so probably not a good choice if you have very small children but not an issue for us at all. Eiffel tower, Rodin Museum and Musee D’orsay are an easy walk away (no more than 20 to 30 minutes) and the metro Vaneau is only a 2 minute walk around the corner. The area is very safe and not many tourists around so you can pretend you are a local!! There are also lovely clothes boutiques within a 10 minute walk away as well as Le Bon Marche (only 5 minutes walk).

We would rent it a 3rd time in a flash!!

STGER12 was absolutely wonderful! It is charming, spacious, and in an excellent location, a short walk to the metro, near two great supermarkets, etc. It was just right for our family of four, and there was even room for a friend who visited us and stayed the night on the pullout couch. I’d definitely recommend it. The only thing was that the floors are really creaky so it’s hard to walk around quietly after the kids have gone to bed. also, don’t forget anything in the back bedroom closet when you leave, as we did. We never saw our very nice rain coats again. Of course, we didn’t notice they were missing for two weeks. Our bad luck.

The location of the apartment is fantastic for the foodie. You are one block away from La Grande Epicure – the best food hall in the world. A short stroll from Pierre Herme and some wonderful restaurants – WISH WE WERE THERE NOW!!!!!
The Metro station is around the corner so everything is very close by.

What time does the Metro start (and finish) at ?

I am catching the Ryanair flight back to Dublin from Beauvais at 9.30am tomorrow morning which means catching their 6.25am bus from Porte Maillot, which means catching an early Metro from Saint Paul. Just checked and the service starts every day at 5.20am so once my alarm goes off, I should be okay!

For info, the Metro runs until 1.20am in the morning and an hour later on Saturday nights. Check the official timetables from RATP who run public transport in Paris.
