I have been to Brasserie de l’Ile Saint Louis many times as it is only a 2 minute walk from my tiny studio on the island and I wasn’t particularly pondering over this question last Thursday evening as I sat engrossed in my book (The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – 3rd in the trilogy by Stig Larsson and the best in my opinion), eating Jarret de Porc avec Chourcoute (the Alsace version of bacon and cabbage) and sipping Mustig Alsace beer from a tankard. Then it dawned on me as the aproned waiters buzzed around making sure the locals, me, and two American women at the next table, received good service and good food – this must be my favourite brasserie as I seem to end up here time and again at the end of a long day when I am too tired to wander and search for a new favourite.
Brasserie de l’Ile Saint Louis which is on the Ile Saint Louis side of the pedestrian bridge linking the island to the beautiful shaded gardens behind Notre Dame, is worth a daytime or evening visit. Enjoy it’s warm and cosy atmosphere inside on a dark winter’s evening or sit on the terrace on a sunny day any time of the year. You will have the pleasure of watching the boats and the people pass by at the same time and you might steal a kiss !
