Les Gourmets des Ternes – best rhum baba in Paris ?

This year alone I have been three times already, twice for lunch and once for dinner, to Les Gourmets des Ternes. My choice of food never changes - filet de boeuf au poivre followed by rhum baba (pudding which you dress yourself with syrup, rum, whipped cream and confit - luxurious and big enough to be shared!).

If you are not a great fan of beef, the restaurant is renowned for all it’s meats – “les viandes”. My friends have enjoyed the lamb, “cotes d’agneau”, and veal “grenadin de veau” dishes.

Jean Francois Marie, the proprietor, is full of himself – he has his picture taken with anyone who’s anyone who eats in his restaurant as evidenced by the photos all over the walls of even the loos and on his website – but that only adds to his and his staff’s “attitude” which though offhand, works to create a fun and lively atmosphere.

As I say about these kind of places – give it a try at least once – bon appetit!

STGER30 – rue Paul-Louis Courier, 75007 Paris

We found STGER30 an excellent choice. Very compact but well appointed, its location means a few steps to Rue du Bac metro and walking distance to Musee D’Orsay, Louvre, Tuilliers etc etc. In fact, many days we simply walked back to the apartment for lunch and a rest after morning sightseeing.
Large shuttered windows gave adequate ventilation on a couple of warm days and the double glazed windows meant quiet nights as well.

The apartment would be further improved with the addition of a small dining table and 2 chairs. The existing adjustable coffee table/couch arrangement is ok but…..?

Check-in agent Antoine was punctual, thorough and helpful. We also used the agency arranged taxi service which worked perfectly and was a good way to go after a 24 hour flight from Australia.

Overall, the apartment was excellent, well located in a comparatively quiet (for Paris) area. Service was faultless from initial contact through to checkout and much better by comparison than another company used by friends at the same time as our visit. Highly recommended and we would use again without question.

The apt. is situated in an ideal location, 2 minutes from the nearest Metro station and walking distance to Saint Germain du Pres for restaurants and shops. Fabien was great in explaining everything when we checked in. We had a pleasant and comfortable stay and we will be back .
BTW: there are instruction booklets on the various appliances in one of the drawers in the kitchen and we did manage to shorten the washing cycle :-)

Cozy, comfortable apartment in a superb location. It is minutes away from metro & velib stations and beautifully appointed inside. This was our second stay at STGER30 and we could not imagine staying elsewhere in Paris. It is our home away from home.

For such a central location, the apartment was very quiet. It was a nice place, very comfortable and gave the experience that you were living in Paris. Eric was thorough and helpful in getting us acquainted with the apartment’s amenities and tips about the area. We could not connect our laptop to the wireless network, so we had to set up the ironing board and connect the computer via ethernet cord in the top of the closet (a longer cord would have come in handy.) Also, we had a problem with the washer/dryer combo, one of the main reasons we picked this apartment over others due to our extended trip to Provence. Five (5!) hours after starting a small load of laundry, we had to abort the cycle and deal with very wet, soapy clothes and no way to dry them, or at least, couldn’t figure out how to just operate the machine as a dryer alone. (The washer is very loud, so we don’t recommend running it at night and disturbing the neighbors.) Overall, we loved it and would use and recommend you in the future. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights in the apartment. For being close to a main street, the apartment was so quiet. Everything we needed and wanted to do was within walking distance and the metro is at the end of the street which was a great bonus. The apartment itself was cosy and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and lots of closet/drawer space. We loved it!

Excelente ubicacion y atención, muy recomendable! En la parte externa del edificio falta mantenimiento, pero se compensa con la excelente calidez de la gente que vive en el mismo.

Perfect flat. Perfect location. Clean, quiet, well-equipped. Eric, who greeted us and oriented us to the flat, was very helpful.

We stayed in this lovely and clean apartment for 7 nights. It is very well-equipped with washer, oven, dish-washer, small fridge, etc, making our stay very comfortable. Location is great and within short walking distance to Metro station. Will definitely consider staying in this apartment again.

Beautifuuly appointed, cozy, quiet apartment in a superb location. A short walk to the metro and Velib stations. Within walking distance of great cheese, pastry and chocolate shops as well as the Blvd. Raspail organic market. Perfect.

Great apartment in a great location; very clean and modern, with a compfortable bed; the 3 flights of stairs will get you in shape; great cafe’s in area and French shopping; easy walk to many attactions; close to two subway stations (two different lines), and double decker tourist bus passes on St.Germain – connects to 3 other lines. To make this apartment 100% perfect I have two wishes: 1) TV be moved into the living room, 2) apartment needs a small Kitchen table with two chairs.

We loved it! What a great neighbourhood with lots of little stores (butcher, baker, pastry, vine, etc). There is even an organic market just down the street, 10 min away. The location is superb. You can get to any part of the city either by walking or taking the subway. The apartment was nice, cosy, and very quiet. Sunny and bright, it had everything one needs for a pleasant stay. We were surprised to find everything in it – from the vacuum cleaner to a selection of tourist books about Paris and surroundings. We would go back to the same place in a heartbeat, and I hope we will – soon!!!

Flawless flat. Perfect location. Extremely quiet. People at SCI PA Location are very nice, we arrived almost at the same time for the check in. Definitely our place in Paris from now on.

QLATIN05 was great. The pillows were worn-but everything else was very comfortable. We loved the location and well stocked kitchen-you handled things well. We thought our wireless connection would work, but we were able to use the computer cable instead.

The portion of our stay at the apartment was so much better than the hotels. It was more relaxing and we were thrilled by the classical music collection and the opportunity to use the piano. Best was the wonderful kitchen and the view overlooking the park, in spite of the traffic noise. “Bread and Roses” was great.

NY Times – the best sandwich and steak frites in Paris just got cheaper

Le Petit Vendôme

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/01/world/europe/01paris.html?_r=1

http://www.rosajackson.com/blog/the-best-sandwich-in-paris.shtml

The drop on the restaurant meal tax (VAT, or TVA as they call it in France, on restaurant meals, coffee etc. was reduced in July 09 from 19.6% to 5.5%) may help save Christian Godin’s popular Le Petit Vendome (8 rue des Capucines) where I and countlless others regularly buy our filled baguettes at lunchtime. You may have to queue but you do so cheerfully knowing what awaits. Sometimes we treat ourselves to his steak frites which is just the best, so much so that he has won prizes for it. Even the NY Times knows about Le Petit Vendome and Rosa Jackson’s mouth-watering description of his sandwiches will make you hungry for one right now – see links above.

Irish Times and Vodafone City Guide mention for Paris Apartments by Numbers

In this week’s Vodafone City Guide in The Irish Times (page 22, wednesday 21 Oct.), Paris Apartments by Numbers gets a mention for it’s apartment rental service which is popular with the Irish business community based in and travelling regularly to Paris. The report talks about the pleasure of doing business in Paris, and with an estimated 10,000 people employed in France by Irish companies, the need that more and more Irish executives have to spend time in the capital. The report goes on to say that staying in one of Paris Apartments by Numbers’ 300 apartments across the city gives executives not just a financially attractive alternative to an hotel but also  a greater choice of locations and more independence and space for longer stays.

PARIS APARTMENTS

In Paris and want to catch a match and a good pint ?

The Auld Alliance pub in the Marais, right beside St Paul Metro is where I go for two good reasons. Firstly they have four screens so when for example it’s Champions League night, United will be showing on one telly, Liverpool on the next and so on. Secondly (and maybe really firstly!), the beers are great. My favourite is Caldonian 80/-. Food only stretches to steak haches, nachos etc. but standard is up to partnering their excellent range of draft and bottled beers.

The Auld Alliance usually shows all the International soccer and rugby matches too. Other places to catch them around the city are the two Irish pubs, Carr’s near Tuileries Metro and Corcoran’s near Bastille (they also have pubs at Saint Michel, Grands Boulevards and Clichy)

We were very pleased with the apartment. The location was great, the apartment was spotless, beautifully decorated, well equipped with everything we needed, and the introduction by Eric Barr was excellent. I would highly recommend it to visitors to Paris.

MONTOR06 was a great little apartment for my mom and I when we stayed in Paris. It’s very quiet during the week and is extremely lively on Friday and Saturday nights. Despite the noise on the 2 of nights we were there, the location was perfect and the quality of service provided by SCI PA Location exceeded all my expectations. We had a slight plumbing issue over the weekend and after the Office’s usual business hours. When the Office re-opened, staff returned our call immediately and after discussing the urgency of the situation, they sent over a handyman to do the initial assessment.

He was unable to fix the problem and he didn’t speak English and we didn’t speak French, so the Office staff became the intermediary. SCI then sent over a wonderful plumber named Cremo. He spoke perfect English, was a diligent worker, and when he left, he gave us his direct phone number to call if there were any more problems ~ we did not need to call him, but the level of service was absolutely outstanding. My impressions about SCI … they are all about service; the apartments are fairly priced, deposits are reasonable, they allow credit card guarrantees, and above everything they are committed to service excellence. I have already recommended them to friends (and they have already booked with them) and I will certainly use them again.

Thank you, Miki Lawson

We stayed at12 Rue Tiqu and had a delighful time. The street is more of a side alley – but on Saturday night it was magically eluminated with restaurants spilling out on the side walk..It was a blast.

We very much enjoyed our stay in the apartment, and liked the location. Sometimes it was a little noisy, but it is after all the centre of Paris so we got used to that. Lots of nice restaurants nearby and easy access to the metro. Ideal for two, a bit short of space for three if staying longer than a few days.

Returned again to the 12 rue Tiquetonne apartment – I loved it. It’s so convenient to stores, restaurants, everything! Hated to leave.

Had a wonderful time, apartment is close to everything, liked the residendial ambience. The apartment was perfect and it felt like coming home everyday. Will definitely stay again.

12 rue Tiquetonne is a great apartment. Very well situated in Paris. Clean, well equipped. However, I would recommend this apartment only to people who are used to city noise! The street is VERY active ALL night long with young people shouting and carrying-on. If this doesn’t bother you, go for it!

Excellent location and very nice apartment! Not huge but large enough and very well equipped. I would definitely stay there again!
